The Actaea vessel is a shallow vessel that has been hand-carved from Vermont marble, quarried in the northeastern United States.  Notable for its creamy, shimmering whites and swirling veins of gray-green, this marble has been used in important American architectural and sculptural landmarks in New York City and Washington, D.C.  Vermont marble is hundreds of millions of years older than Carrara marble, and has a larger crystal structure and lower porosity than the Italian variety.

This piece has been taken to a satin, honed finish. It is soft to the touch, but without a polished shine. It has also been sealed with a FDA approved sealant to be partially water repellent and to resist staining.
